Scarce French Napoleon III Brass & Glass Epergne Vase 14.25H C-1850-1870

This listing is for an exquisite piece of French finery in the form of a gilt bronze Napoleon IlI cornet epergne, with a single glass flute in the center, circa 1870. The glass is thick cut crystal presumed to be Baccarat. It has a frustoconical shape, animated by sides and punctuated by a wide neck with a polylobed border. The ornate heavy brass base is surrounded by three legs with claw feet emerging from its circular center.

An upright holder on the disc is where the crystal epergne rests. A beautiful centerpiece with or without flowers, or a stand alone as a work of art. The crystal is unsealed from the mount and there is slight give or movement.

The brass has not been polished and shows wear to the gilt, consistent with its age and use. The crystal is gently used with no chips or cracks.
