ANTIQUE VINTAGE AUTHENTIC ART NOUVEAU SIGNED LEGRAS VASE. Born December 27, 1839 - died August 2, 1916 in Paris. His childhood spent in a tiny hamlet in the heart of the Darney Forest, one of the most beautiful forests in France - will become a source of inspiration for his creations focused on wildlife, the flora and especially the forest and lake landscapes. At the age of 20, he get a job as a clerk in glassworks near his home. At the age of 24, he went to work for Plaine St. At 27, he became Director of glassware there. He builds a new modern factory and a worker's city that over the years becomes an industrial complex of nearly 20,000 square meters. He became chief executive officer of Legras et Cie, then of the Verrerie et Cristallerie de Saint-Denis. Legras participates in many national and international exhibitions where he is often rewarded. Gold metal at the 1888 Barcelona International exhibition ; Sixth Grand Prize at the 1889 Paris World Fair. He was also responsible for the glassware and crystalware part of the 1900 World Fair in Paris. In 1909, he handed over the management of his business to his nephew Charles Legras.

Legras is one of the 4 glass masters at the founding of Art Nouveau with Emile Galle, Daum and Rene Lalique. 11 1/2" high x 4 3/4" wide (at the widest) x 4 wide neck opening. I owned and operated an antique and vintage Decorative Arts (statuary, vases, paintings and furniture) storefront in New York City called JOIA for 36 years. Moved to Florida in 1996 taking my remaining inventory with me.
