CHARLES X BRONZE MOUNTED OPALINE VASE OVER ROUGE MARBLE BASE. France, circa 1830 Item # 010GPA21K. A beautifully cast opaline vase of the Charles X period, it is a rich collection of colors and materials. The form is distinctly Gothic in its architectural display cast in patinated bronze around the base of the vase, this ring holding the opaline glass as it trumpets upward and outward. An intricately cast gilded crown finishes the top edge of the vase, this with a notable edge loss. The rouge base is raised over powerful shell-form sabots and is mounted with a single rosette from which symmetrical foliage spread outward on either side. While it has sustained some losses over the years, the nearly jeweler-grade quality of the casting makes it a most worthy acquisition - and conveniently, the crown can be spun to hide the loss from being visible when on display. Measurements: 10 1/4" H x 5 1/2" D x 5 1/2 W. Condition Report: Minor bending to elements of the crown.
Lower edge of crown with a loss of approximately 1 1/2 of decoration; gilt bronze mounts removed from all sides other than the front of the rouge marble base. Opaline vase in good condition without chips. My name is Andrew Silla and my wife and I own and operate Silla, ltd in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
