RARE BACCARAT CRYSTAL GLASS CYLINDER VASE CUT CURVED FOOTED MEIJI ASIAN STYLE MOUNT BASE ENAMELED GOLD JAPONISME FRENCH MANGANESE OXIDES MID-LATE1800's. THIS RARE UNSIGNED ANTIQUE BACCARAT CYLINDER VASE MEASURES APPROX. 10" HIGH, AND 3 1/2" ACROSS THE BASE. THIS STYLE IS JAPONISME (1858 - 1900), SO NAMED FOR THE ASIAN ART INFLUENCE OF THE PERIOD. BACCARAT MADE MANY CYLINDRICAL VASES, AND OTHER SHAPES, IN THE JAPONISME STYLE, MANY OF WHICH WERE MOUNTED ON GILT BRONZE BASES, DESIGNED TO LOOK LIKE PIECES FROM JAPAN, DURING THE MEIJI PERIOD, (1868 -1912).
IN THIS VERSION, THE METAL BASE IS REPLACED WITH A STYLIZED GLASS BASE. THE VASE IS ENAMELED WITH GOLD FLOWERS (PINE NEEDLES, AND/OR THISTLES), AND SET ON A LARGE, THICK, CURVED, FOOTED GLASS ASIAN STYLE BASE, THAT WAS HAND CUT, BEVELED, AND APPLIED TO THE CYLINDRICAL VASE. THE COLOR OF THE BASE HAS A BLUE-VIOLET TINT OFTEN SEEN IN CLEAR ANTIQUE GLASS, WHICH MAY BE A RESULT OF THE ANNEALING PROCESS, AND/OR TRACE AMOUNTS OF MANGANESE OXIDES. THE BASE HAS A SUBTLE GREEN GLOW UNDER BLACK LIGHT, AT A SIDE ANGLE, SEE LAST TWO PHOTOS, #'s 11 AND 12. IN CLOSE UP OF BASE (PHOTO #10), THERE IS NO CHIP, JUST THE WHITE-ISH ANGLE OF LIGHT / REFLECTION ON THE CURVE NEAR THE LEFT EDGE.SOME EXTREMELY SMALL FLAKES AT THE TOP, (SEE PHOTO #7). THE VASE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
