DESCRIPTION C19th RARE Frosted Glass French Bulldog Dog Figure diamante eyes. Often given as a Christmas favor or Cracker charm in the 1800's possibly they were wrapped as table gifts. Notice the fine detail on the collar, the raise spikey points and the body features and facial detail.

Sharp quality detail on all areas particularly notable on the collar. Most were made in Czechoslovakia although there are many many variations due to many small factories producing similar items, but in varies levels of quality. It would seem they were made in th larger size in the early period of perhaps 1890 and then smaller version were favoured in the early 1900's.

French Bulldogs were very fashionable with the society ladies in the 1800's, these little dogs were the handbag dogs of their day and delighted upon by the society elite, thus party favours of their favourite living toys would have been deemed quite charming. Some are plain, some painted and some had gemstone eyes, this one has a couple of small sparkly clear diamantes, although they could come in all colours and different coloured glass. I have only had one other of these and have not seen any others for 18mths, so not at all common. Some small losses, but just little nips and niggles really. Genuine exquisite and rare old piece.
