GORGEOUS ANTIQUE LEGRAS FRENCH ART GLASS. Purple Enameled Bows & Floral Swags Oval Bowl. IF YOU LIKE AN ITEM PLEASE WATCH IT! I OFTEN SEND PRIVATE DEAL OFFERS TO MY WATCHERS! This piece was made at the Legras Glass Manufactory in France around 1880.
It is a beautiful shade of purple, almost a violet color. This is a large size oval bowl with a widely ruffled top edge, and a Blown outward center. It was most likely made to be a table centerpiece.
The rim is painted gold, which is sponged downward to about 1/2 in areas. The gold sort of undulated along the rim. The main decoration is done in very thick hand painted enamels with large white bows connected by floral swags and strings.
Most of the gold outline is still present on this piece. The bowl measures 4" high to rim, is just over 9" wide and is 6 1/2 from front to back. The lower blown out area is the same size, but looks bigger because of the pinched in neck. The stepped down base is 6 1/2 wide by 3 1/2. This piece is in Superb Condition with no chips, cracks or flea bites. The gold painted rim is a bit scratched from age and use. The underside has very little wear which tells us this piece was mostly kept behind glass in a display cabinet and not actually used much.
