ANTIQUE BACCARAT CRYSTAL GLASS VASE CAMEO ACID LOBED ENAMELED POINSETTIA HOUX HOLLY FRENCH CHINOISERIE ART NOUVEAU. THIS SUPERB CAMEO VASE BY MAISON BACCARAT MEASURES APPROX. 5 3/4" HIGH, 5" ACROSS AND 4 DEEP. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL AND CLASSIC WORK OF ART! THIS VASE IS ACID ETCHED, OR POSSIBLY GUILLOCHE-WORKED GLASS, WITH A LARGE CAMEO / ACID POINSETTIA MOTIF.
THE GOLD ENAMELING AND COLORS ARE BRIGHT AND IN NEARLY PERFECT CONDITION. THE LOBED, QUATREFOIL SHAPE IS INFLUENCED BY CHINESE VASES, WITH SIMILAR ATTRIBUTES, AND WAS MADE DURING THE JAPONISME / ART NOUVEAU ERA, CIRCA 1880 - 1920.
THIS QUATREFOIL SHAPE, WELL DOCUMENTED TO HAVE BEEN USED BY RINDSKOPF IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT DECORS, INCLUDING DILUVIUM GLASS, WAS ALSO USED BY BACCARAT, IN THIS HIGHLY RECOGNIZABLE POINSETTIA CAMEO MOTIF, JEAN-LUIS CURTIS: BACCARAT, p. 261, AND IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED BY ONE COLLECTOR ON'COLLECTOR WEEKLY', WHO COMPARES/CONTRASTS 4 VARYING DECORS OF THE SAME MODEL VASE IN HIS COLLECTION, THAT THIS STYLE VASE MAY ALSO HAVE BEEN PRODUCED BY HARRACH, RIEDEL, ST. WE ASSUME IT CAME FROM BACCARATS DESIGNS, BUT CANNOT SAY HOW RINDSKOPF CAME TO ACQUIRE IT, UNLESS THE TWO GLASS MAKERS SHARED BLANKS OR MOULDS, WHICH WAS NOT UNCOMMON DURING THE TIME OF THIS MANUFACTURE. AS NOTED IN MY OTHER AUCTIONS, LOETZ AND MOSER ALSO SHARED A WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH REGARD TO GLASS BLANKS. I'VE INCLUDED PHOTOS OF A'TWIN' VASE...A VERY RARE, ACID ETCHED, BACCARAT BLACK HYALITH GLASS VASE, IN THIS SAME SHAPE, ALSO OFFERED IN MY LISTINGS. IT IS NOT LIKELY TO FIND EITHER OF THESE TWO VASES OFFERED, ANYTIME SOON, LET ALONE AT THE SAME TIME, AND SAME PLACE, AS THEY ARE QUITE RARE...
THE BLACK VASE EVEN MORE SO. AND YET, ALSO QUITE RARE AND HARD TO COME BY. MINOR WEAR ON GOLD TOP.
ACID / GUILLOCHE GLASS-WORK IS EXCELLENT. ENAMELING IS DETAILED AND SOPHISTICATED IN ITS RENDERING, THROUGHOUT THE VASE. 3 PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE, AND REVIEW THE PHOTOS FOR DESCRIPTION.
