Antique French Silver Plate Epergne Centerpiece Signed August Moreau
Antique French Silver Plate Epergne Centerpiece Signed August Moreau. A wonderful way to display a modest number of flowers to make the table look glamorous and grand is by using an epergne a tiered centerpiece with removable vase(s). My Mother had an enormous collection of epergnes many inherited from her Mother. It utilizes a signed sculpture of a maiden by Auguste Moreau one of the foremost French sculptors of the later 1800s. He came from a famous family of artists whose father was Jean Baptists Moreau - also a sculptor & painter. This epergne sits on a tall elegant stand & features a female figure in a long-draped gown with one hand on her hip & the other on her head balancing a vase for flowers. The details in this sculpture are amazing note her hands & fingers, so finely done; the folds and draping of her gown; her lovely face. The bottom stand sits on four raised feet & provides the support for the entire epergne. The entire frame is covered in silver plate, leading up to the central female figure & glass vase & plate above her head. It stands 23 inches tall; the center dish, 9.5 in diameter; the vase itself 11 inches This epergne is the perfect size for a short or long dining room table.

This lovely epergne has been kept in wonderful condition. We have had it cleaned & polished & it is ready to arrive to your home. We show it set on one of my Mothers wonderful mirrored plateaus for extra vibrancy as well as on a highly polished tray & stand.
